Vacating the Moral High Ground

Today in America, members of the religious right continuously whine about the “persecution” of Christianity, i.e., its inability to dominate moral discourse in a pluralistic society; and use the intolerance of Islamic radicals to justify their own intolerance of all Muslims, everywhere.

Meanwhile, in Egypt, Coptic Christians are dying, and Egyptian Muslims “flock” to their churches to show solidarity for their Christian brothers, and act as “human shields,” if necessary.

Take this as a reminder to keep things in perspective, and that American exceptionalism cannot be assumed, as a product of history. It must be constantly reaffirmed, or it will be lost.
