The Push to Repeal DoMA Comes Monday

Courtesy Jerrold Nadler (D-NY), who represents Greenwhich Village and all of Lower Manhattan (including me), effectively relieving President Obama from staking his own political capital on gay rights. That’s probably for the best — lord knows he needs all he can get now. No matter what comes in 2010, this, at least, will be done.

Something ere the end,
Some work of noble note, may yet be done,
Not unbecoming men that strove with Gods.

– Alfred Lord Tennyson, “Ulysses”

  1. Will his bill actually see the light of day though? Healthcare Legislation has seemingly put an end to all other legislative work. I know for a fact, SAFETEA-LU expires on the 30th, and while one chamber was halfheartedly working on its replacement a few months ago, the other chamber’s leadership essentially said “We aren’t addressing anything except healthcare until healthcare’s done.” Which seems pretty damn stupid… then again, neither Pelosi nor Reid is the Democrat I’d have chosen for either of those jobs.
