Talking Points: McCain and Hagee, Again

May 13, 2008 · 5 Comments

Apparently, Reverend Hagee has apologized for his controversial comments… about Catholics. Not about Jews, and not about gays. I’ve written about this before, and I still think it’s ridiculous that relatively few talk about McCain’s extremist links. Don’t think he’s that bad? First, here’s a video:

And if that’s not enough, a user commenting at NYT’s “The Caucus” assembled this list of links below - great thanks to you, Jake, if you read this:

  • Video of Hagee’s services;
  • Article on Hagee’s appearance on Fox’s “Your World”;
  • Appearance on NPR’s Fresh Air, with Terry Gross (she doesn’t like him), and;
  • Jerusalem Countdown, a book by Hagee.

Why does the media look the other way from this guy? Spread the word.

    I think it’s because McCain has never been particularly vocal about his faith nor seemed to be very devout. On the other hand, Obama referred to Wright as a very close associate, albeit family.

    Democrats would not be feeling the need to play tit for tat if Obama had handled this better.

    I think it’s just bad that McCain has gone out of his way to get this guys endorsement…

    But mostly, I think people are more shocked by “angry black pastor” than the typical “crazy white pastor”.

    It ain’t an apology—it’s the usual, “I’m sorry if you were oversenitive and offended by my perfectly innocent comments…”.

    McCain needs to clearly separate himself from these wackos. Talk about a double standard—Obama has a wacky preacher, but McCain is gleefully accepting support from hate-mongers.

    PalMD is a gentleman and a scholar.
