Warning: the Lousiana legislature is preparing to consider an “academic freedom” bill - HB 1168 - which would allow Louisiana teachers to consider creationism, intelligent design, and alternative myths as alternatives to science in the science classroom. The Panda’s Thumb has an excellent post here, which includes contact information for the Lousiana legislature. This strategy worked last time: the Florida House cited a massive letter writing campaign as part of the reason they abandoned a similar bill. Friends, let’s get writing.
I’d love to write a long post about how “academic freedom” is a funny way of putting an agenda which aims to brainwash a generation of children, but sadly, it’s exam time. Maybe tomorrow! In the meantime, I always like it when people read older posts. Check out the “Creationism” tag. And, below the line, a letter I sent to Florida when it considered this option. It wouldn’t be on point, but maybe some of the arguments would be.
It’s not some of my best writing, but I hope you enjoy.
